Accessibility

AR-GetCare was designed in accordance with the State of Arkansas’ accessibility requirements, including Arkansas Act 1227 of 1999. The site has been tested using accessibility evaluation tools such as Bobby and using reading tools such as IBM Homepage Reader. Accessibility efforts include:

User-Controlled Accessibility Features

The following features are available at the top of the AR-GetCare home page and on most other parts of the Website:

  1. Change Text Size: Click on one of the letters “A” at the top of the page to change the size of the text. Text is also resizable using any standard Internet browser. Changing the text size on AR-GetCare will not affect the text size of other Websites you visit.
  2. Select Language: Click on “English” or “Spanish.”
  3. Skip Navigation: If you use an assistive device that reads site contents aloud, click on “Skip Navigation” to avoid hearing repetitive links like “Home” and “Search” that appear on every page of the AR-GetCare Website.

Access Keys

Access keys are provided as a shortcut for AR-GetCare users.

If you are using Windows, hold down the ALT button on your keyboard and the access key for the page you want. Then hit “enter.”

If you are using a Mac, hold down the Control key plus the appropriate access key. You do not need to hit “enter.”

Access keys are defined as follows:

Website Design

In addition to these user-controlled features, every effort has been made to ensure that AR-GetCare conforms to the U.S. government's section 508 standards and the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Priority 1 and 2 guidelines. For instance:

  1. Site content is accessible using a variety of browsers and assistive devices. Pages are tested using standard Web browsers, browsers with the images turned off, text-based browsers such as Lynx, keyboard-only (mouse-free) navigation, and assistive technologies such IBM Homepage Reader.
  2. Since many assistive devices read a site’s underlying code (known as markup language), care has been taken to streamline the site’s code, avoid unnecessary markup, and use markup to clarify content.
  3. Icons, graphics, and photographs are avoided whenever possible, and all images are accompanied by text that describes content and/or function.
  4. Color combinations and contrast are used in ways that promote accessibility to users who are vision impaired or whose computer monitors display few colors. All information conveyed with color is also available without color.
  5. Hyperlinks (words or phrases that take the user directly to another Website or another part of the AR-GetCare Website) use meaningful, descriptive text, not just shorthand such as "click here." Hyperlinks are accessible using a mouse or an assistive device.
